Rest in Peace

Last weekend was my grandfather's funeral. He had been sick for years and was in a lot of pain. He had skin cancer and a few years ago they had to take part of his ear off in order to hopefully keep it from spreading. It didn't work. He also had congenitive heart failure and was in the first stages of Alzheimer's. One of those alone is hard enough, but trying to battle all at once was very taxing and exhausting. He hung in there longer than anyone expected, but at last gave up the fight. He was a quiet man, but one that fiercely loved his family. He got pretty emotional when the grandkids would stop by for a visit. He was in the military, in the Calvary, he also worked on the railroad. He farmed and was a great horseman. I wasn't as close to him as I would've or should've been, but I loved him and am eternally grateful for his example and love. Besides, if not for him, then I wouldn't be here. Love you Grandpa, see ya on the other side.
