It's the little things that matter

and I'm taking TIME (my OLW for 2013) to start actively looking for and appreciating all those little things that usually get brushed off or forgotten seconds later.  For example, this morning at work, I ran across the street to the hospital to get my water mug filled, grab some breakfast and a diet coke.

When I came back to my office, this sweet girl was waiting for me....of course she didn't look like this..lol.  She had come from basketball practice, all sweaty, no make-up, hair in a pony.  I was surprised to see her, figuring she would have gone straight home and back to bed.  I asked her what she was doing and she said she just wanted to come see me and wanted a hug.   Awww...now if that didn't tug at my heartstrings and almost made me cry.  This sweet girl of mine has always been a hugger.  Me, not so much, but I started appreciating those hugs years ago and am grateful that at almost 17 years old, she still wants a hug from mom.  I am truely blessed to have this girl in my life.

My  One Little Word to focus on this year is TIME.

There are so many things that I want to change this year, and it is past time that I did.  I want to take better care of the TIME I do have, not procrastinate, not waste so much time doing things that aren't important.  I want to feel like I'm living with intention and on purpose, not just surviving or existing.

Some of my focus areas are
Spiritual-spending more time in the scriptures and drawing closer to my Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ.
Use my time to better serve those around me, look for those who are in need

Health-I definitely need to get control of my health. My cardiologist wants me losing 25 lbs in the next few months, so I need to take the time to meal plan, exercise and be accountable.
I want to be more active, not just with exercise, but out in nature hiking, running, kayaking, etc.

Create-this is important to me, I want to take the time to learn new techniques, take a class or two, get outside my comfort zone and try new things.

Organize-pretty much everything!

Family-take the time to spend with family even if it's a little inconvenient. We never know how much TIME we or our loved ones have left in this life and I don't want to regret not spending time with the people who mean the most to me.

That's a little bit of what I am hoping to work on in 2013.  I want to come to the end of the year being happy with my progress and accomplishments, not dreading another year with no changes and feeling like a failure. Oh..I'm also going to be working on a positive attitude....because it's way past time for that!  Sorry this got super long, I wasn't intending to write a novel, but I guess I needed to get it out of my head and into words that I can read and re-read whenever I am needing a reminder.

Do you have a focus word for 2013?  Please share if you do, and if you've gotten this far...thanks for reading! :)
